FAQ

What ages do you teach?
I work with students 4 and up, including teens and adults.
Yes, an acoustic or digital piano at home is required to start lessons. Acoustic pianos need tuning every 6-12 months. Digital pianos must have weighted keys.
I typically offer 30-minute lessons, although longer lessons may be specially requested.

While I teach classical music best, I enjoy teaching my students a range of musical styles as they are ready and interested, including Disney, film & game soundtracks, hymns & worship, pop, showtunes, jazz and ragtime.

Parents are welcome to sit in during lessons or wait elsewhere. If sitting in I ask parents to allow me to address any unruly behavior according to my own discretion and timing.

How do payments work?

I operate under 3 payment systems:

1. At the MACC during the school year, students commit to a semester at a time and pay for the weeks I make their time slot available. Refunds are not normally given for missed lessons, but I try to help students reschedule and swap times with other students when enough notice is given. I email the previous month’s bill at the beginning of each month.

2. At the MACC during the summer, payment is made for lessons given in the previous month. Cancellations are free as long as they’re not made the same day, but advance notice is appreciated!

3. At SFA, students pay in advance in 2-month intervals for however many lessons they anticipate in that timeframe. Any amounts underpaid or overpaid are balanced in the next payment. SFA also has an annual registration fee of $40.

I have two cancellation policies:

1. At the MACC during the school year I don’t normally refund missed lessons but I try to help students swap times with other families when enough notice is given.

2. At the MACC during the summer and at SFA year-round cancellation is free with 24+ hours notice.

I hold student recitals twice a year, typically toward the end of each school semester. I am also happy to prepare students for competitions and other performances.
